Lately i have been trying to find a date useing the free personals websites and it has ended up in fraustration.
I fill in the profile like everybodyelse (man seeking woman) dating, photo, a bit about yourself and you think yup ready to go.
Not so, these websites now offer at the same time Friendship, socailising, meetings....FSM. On the face of it this seems like a good thing except if your prime interest is dating.
Now i'm not blameing anybody for something but most women when they register state that their prime interest is FSM and their secondary interest is dating, they then produce a short list of attributes that they are seeking in a man which they seem to have copied from each other and you would not say out aloud because its unrealistic.
Now back up a second we are talking about dating websites, people have come to these websites for FSM but as a date they have made themselves unapproachable, they then complain about the lack of dates!
Have dating/personal websites become social networking sites?
I am not sure about dating sites, but social networking sites are for as you say "friendship and socialising",as well as networking. Anybody over a certain age can be in these social networking sites. And they are not there for finding a date unless that is what you are looking for. Everybody is in them for different reasons. And some people don't copy others as they have a brain of their own. I am in a few of them sites and I am not looking for a date.My pages in these places are for my personal interests including that I love doing webpages.I love blogging and I love creating a page and for people to visit me via my page. I have made a few friends on these sites but am not looking for a date.So they really are there for whatever you are looking for. I am not really sure about the dating ones and whether peoples ideals are too high. But with meeting people on the internet there are more people to choose from and people possibly aim high in the hope of attracting the most illedgible people they can.Not sure, but best wishes:)
Reply:I know a great website for muslim singles.I just find my love there,we meet on that website, then chat about sometimes and finally fall in love with each other. You can have a try!

Reply:all i can say on this issue is people have become very careful its easy to build up a image but most of the time they ars false photos etc and therefore the backing out issue happens because of the lies in the first instance

What are some other free social networking sites?
Do not include Myspace, Orkut, Facebook, or Xanga.
What are some other free social networking sites?
You could use Bribble Chat, but you need to sycronize what time, port and all that stuff
*or*
You could use IMVU.com. It is a 3-D avatar, teen land to chat.
You might want to check it out!

Are myspace, facebook, and other social networking sites done or what? Seems like it's nothing other than spam
Yah, MySpace has gotten pretty bad with spam. That's why I use Yuniti ( http://yuniti.com ) and Facebook ( http://facebook.com )
Are myspace, facebook, and other social networking sites done or what? Seems like it's nothing other than spam
Um, no. Maybe it's cause my profiles are private, but I don't get spam. Also, 99% of my myspace and facebook friends were friends (or at least acquaintances) before they were added. I have so much fun with my friends! It's a great way to stay current with friends who are geographically far away.

What are your thoughts on social networking sites?
Myspace, Xanga, Blackplanet, Teenspot, Tagged...
a thousand more to name....
What are your thoughts on social networking sites?
I think that it is sad that teenagers are not encouraged to be with actual visible friends and that it seems easier for them to talk to strangers than it is their parents or actual friends. Parents need to be just that ...PARENTS! Get them out from in front of the computers and out in the world. I understand that rewarding them with computer time is a perk but don't let them sit in front of it all the free time that they have.
Reply:Well I'm led to believe that people put up their picture to be told they're "gorgeous" and "perfect" and "beautiful" - so in few words my thoughts are that they're the haven of self-obsessed teenagers who want approval from everyone.
No thanks, I'll stick with my own blog.
Reply:They are a great way to keep in touch with your friends, if you join to "have the most friends" or be the most popular, a lot of people don't care. I use: Myspace, Vox, Livejournal, and Facebook. I have all of them because some of my friends don't like myspace, the others don't like facebook, vox i only joined because it's part of livejournal, and i've had livejournal since it's inception year.... all of my blogs are linked so I don't update them all separately. They are all perfectly fine to keep in touch with, especially if you or your friends have moved. A lot of people say that you should interact face to face but as a young kid it's not convenient when you can't drive yourself around and when you can, sometimes you're too busy especially when school starts. Think of these places as glorified e-mail accounts that you can personalize and others can keep up with what's going on with you.
Don't use these sites to meet people because that always turns out badly. All of my stuff is private, friends, and by request only. I like it that way.
Have fun, be a kid! even if you're not!!!
Reply:they are good communication between friends but very bad if the right safty measures aren't takein

Does anyone else feel that social networking sites are damaging to personal lives.?
i.e. FACEBOOK....MYSPACE???
Does anyone else feel that social networking sites are damaging to personal lives.?
100% yes. I don't think there's anything wrong with casual chatting/communicating with friends and keeping tabs with family members, co-workers, etc.
But it becomes a problem when that's all people live for, log in first thing in the morning and last thing before bed; I know of myspace addicts who wake up in the middle of the night to check messages and whatnot.
I think it de-fabricates reality and social lives of people, aside from exposing them to god knows what BS people post on those places.
Reply:Not 100 percent. they hurt but can also help.
Reply:Yes. I have only a few friends on facebook, but that's because I'd like to share pictures with people half way across the world. I only have close family and friends on mines, not people I met for 10 minutes at a party.

What are the disadvantages of social networking sites ?
Stalkers
Pedophiles
Immature kids posting information that they are too young to understand may damage their reputation and future. Employers and universities are using them to vet candidates.
How would you like to not get into the college of your choice because as a stupid 16 year old...you posted a photo of yourself in a school play of ...say the producers...and the photo of you dressed as Hitler. Someone misinterprets and deems you a racist.... it happens.
Also...in appropriate photos showing too much skin. If it isn't appropriate for Mom or Dad...or even Grandma...its not appropriate for you AT ALL!

I use Slide.com on social networking sites, but often my slideshows freeze/stop loading at around 75%.?
Does anyone else have this problem?
I use Slide.com on social networking sites, but often my slideshows freeze/stop loading at around 75%.?
I use Slide.com as well.. but i don't occur this problem! I guess is the networks problem, because i use my office pc! sometime its happens too :)
Reply:Do they just freeze for you or have others viewing them also had the problem?
This is usually caused by lack of memory/storage space in your PC and sometimes a slow connection. To view the shows you have to download the flash movie/presentation from Slide.com and this is stored in a temporary area called the cache. The cache has a fixed maximum size and when it is full, Internet Explorer has to clear out older stuff in order to make space for the new. Sometimes the cache isn't large enough to hold everything downloaded (especially a largish flash file like a slide show) and it has to wait to clear out the parts you have viewed before it can carry on with the slide show.
Try emptying the cache first. (Tools, Internet Options, on the General tab under Browsing History press Delete.) If your hard disk is not nearly full, you might also try increasing the cache size (which should be 1024 by default, I think). Click the Settings button to check and change it (perhaps to 2048 if it is 1024 currently).
Try this first to see if there is any improvement. If not, post an additional message with any error messages you may have.

There are tons out there, depending on what social group you want to interact with.
Friendster.com is popular in my area. no particular category of people, just anybody looking for friends.

These are the ones I recommend:
Bebo
Best if you are looking for a combination of myspace and facebook features. Has a cool ability for music focus. Limited customization as far as layout (think Google IG), but a large collection of themes.
http://bebo.com
Virb
Seems to be a little overstated, but has a great community. Also has good music features. Great to use for specific outgoing interests especially music and sports.
http://virb.com
Trig
Better than Virb, similar features. Mostly music focused.
http://trig.com
Purevolume
Mainly music focused. Best for a music orientated social network. Limited customization that unifies everyone's profiles.
http://purevolume.com
my.9rules
Best among all, but small user base. Slightly limited on customizations, but at least you won't be bombarded with flashing GIF images and text.
http://my.9rules.com
Pownce
Great for news stories and unique internet finds. Highly active community. Has backing of digg.com. Great desktop instant messenger.
http://pownce.com
Beautiful Society
Interest based network. Most vibrant interface.
http://beautifulsociety.com/
Humble Voice
Another interest based network. Great for arts.

What are the most popular social networking sites for teenagers?
Which websites do teenagers use most, and why?
What are the most popular social networking sites for teenagers?
Most likely MySpace and YouTube. They're popular most likely because of "word-of-mouth". MySpace also allows for some very high customization (if you are familiar with HTML) so that you can make your page fit your style. YouTube allows creative people to show off their own video.
So, I think it is a mix of both artistry on the part of the user, word-of-mouth on the part of getting their peers involved in looking at or using these sites, and the site itself for lending itself well to being very easy to use and modify.
Reply:myspace.com - like a personal webpage, blogs an stuff
hotornot.com - post a pic of yourself, and public rates how cute..
youtube.com - kinda like myspace only video blogs
ebaumsworld.com - pictures, videos, stuff for when your bored

Are There Any Other Popular Social Networking Sites Other Than Myspace or Facebook?
These are the ones I recommend:
Bebo
Best if you are looking for a combination of myspace and facebook features. Has a cool ability for music focus. Limited customization as far as layout (think Google IG), but a large collection of themes.
http://bebo.com
Virb
Seems to be a little overstated, but has a great community. Also has good music features. Great to use for specific outgoing interests especially music and sports.
http://virb.com
Trig
Better than Virb, similar features. Mostly music focused.
http://trig.com
Purevolume
Mainly music focused. Best for a music orientated social network. Limited customization that unifies everyone's profiles.
http://purevolume.com
my.9rules
Best among all, but small user base. Slightly limited on customizations, but at least you won't be bombarded with flashing GIF images and text.
http://my.9rules.com
Pownce
Great for news stories and unique internet finds. Highly active community. Has backing of digg.com. Great desktop instant messenger.
http://pownce.com
Beautiful Society
Interest based network. Most vibrant interface.
http://beautifulsociety.com/
Humble Voice
Another interest based network. Great for arts.

How to limit time on social networking sites and focus more on work?
You need to ask yourself "Why do I work at all?"
Try reading this book for some insight?

How to limit time on social networking sites and focus more on work?
Ask your IT guy to block said sites from your access. I actually have had users ask me that very thing, and I block access as they request. In some cases it's their managers asking though.

Do you think that social networking sites like myspace and facebook are addictive?? Why or why not??
yes,
there a great way to keep in touch with old friends or people in your past or present. i have a few people on mine from like kindergarten and its just fun to see how people turn out. so yes im addicted.
Do you think that social networking sites like myspace and facebook are addictive?? Why or why not??
Well, I know some people people are addicted to sites like myLot:
http://www.mylot.com/?ref=Astralking
because after all the more they "socialize", the more money they make. The page is something like a cross between yahoo answers %26amp; myspace. Too bad yahoo answers lets you only earn points. But well, it is addictive just the same.
That said, I think every social networking site that appeals to the hunter-gatherer part of the male instinct (but I know for sure some women have that instinct, too), has a heightened potential to be addictive. The main question here is: where does the addiction start? I mean: When do you begin to realize, that you are addicted? Is it the day when your friends or family members point out to you, that you spend more time socializing on myspace (for example) than participating in real life activites?
I think this is a very good, but also a very difficult question to answer, because it concerns almost every computer-savvy person with a moderately fast internet connection. I also have a strong feeling that social networking sites will be much more dominant in the future than they are today.
Reply:It can if you allow it to, just like anything else. I have a MySpace page, after I swore I never would. I check it once a day, and leave it at that. It might help that I'm a little bit older than the crowd that uses it the most, but it's really a conscious decision that you're making, if you sit for so long on one page, or in front of the PC for a long time.
Reply:Myspace is very easy to use and its a great way to socialize with friends when not on the phone, its great for meeting new people. Facebook can be a bit confusing with all those add-ons, but it depends really for what you want it..
Anyways, both are great. (But myspace is better :P)
Reply:They can be addicting, if you are on them to much. A person can become addicted to anything. I don't have a myspace, but I do have facebook, and I think it's great. Lot's of people I know have it.

Do you think that social networking sites like myspace and facebook are addictive??? Why or why not???
I do. I thin this way because I used to be an addict lol. I guess it's because you're caught up in the hype around the site. All your friends begin to join and that just motivates you even more to go on it daily. After a while, after all the hype dies down, you slowly go on it less and less.
Do you think that social networking sites like myspace and facebook are addictive??? Why or why not???
It depends on who you are. I personally spend a lot of time on MySpace because I am very interested in web design and like expressing myself by creating layouts and things like that. I also use Facebook because I enjoy talking to people that I wouldn't usually talk to which is what you can do on Facebook. But many people don't find them as entertaining as me because and spend very little time on those kind of sites.
Reply:Depends on the person. Personally I am addicted to both of them. Actually I have both of them opened in windows as I type this answer. I use them both for networking more than friends. I find people who need websites built, graphics, and other services that I offer.
Reply:It can be when there's nothing to do. But when I'm busy, Facebook is the last thing on my mind. When people post pictures sometimes you just spend a couple of hours looking at them reminiscing about fun times or something.
Reply:depends.
yes because you speak to friends
no because if no one is online well boring

It's more of an "adult" theme but it's not porn. He's known for many of the comments left on peoples profiles (the flashy images and what not). My fiance is in the process of putting the final touches on the project and it should be launched within the next couple of weeks. It's not publically completed but if you want to bookmark - myfriendcorner.com - it'll definitely be up soon.
There's also vidilife.com but they focus more on posting custom video's than anything, there is an older crowd of people though.

Reply:Have you tried Facebook ? I find that far more mature than myspace and bebo, however there are annoying applications that you can add if you are that way inclined. It is otherwise a great way to keep in touch with people you may otherwise not communicate with.

What think ye of social networking sites? Useful or not useful?
not hugely useful, but fun sometimes
What think ye of social networking sites? Useful or not useful?
I think they are useful in the sense that they help me keep in touch with my friends now that I have moved out of state and we can do it in a way that still keeps things fun. Plus I met some people before that I wouldn't mind knowing as far as business for the future.

Do you think that social networking sites give people a false sense of popularity...?

Do you think that social networking sites give people a false sense of popularity...?
no
Reply:well given the amount of people on here who think they are in love or in a relationship just because they have conversations with someone online i would say yes. if they are that type of person
Reply:I don't think seeing your own picture on the web makes you feel any more popular... what I do hate are the people who try to appear popular to others by adding random people as friends or contacts. How fake is that?!?
Reply:yes... and some people just add people to make it seem as if they knw lots of people..but most of the people are strangers and they probably dont even know if they are the person in the pic...

Why do people like social networking sites so much?
Is it insecurity or just the need to communicate? Or is there really a need at all?
Why do people like social networking sites so much?
Perhaps it is because the cyber world has opened up a means to communicate in a way that otherwise shy people can't do on a one-to-one, face-to-face basis? There is a difference in taking the time to think and typing out the words in the seclusion of your computer room than having to respond in the "flesh". Insecurity? Sure! Yet the need to communicate still exists. We'd better communicate! No man/woman is an island. Lack of communication is the world's greatest problem because if there is no communication, there can be no understanding whatever the means of communication. Great question!
Reply:So they can spy on people they went to high school with.

Is all advertising on social networking sites contextual?
Do the ads vary depending on what you have written on your profile?
Is all advertising on social networking sites contextual?
No, not all ads used in social networking sites are contextual
Facebook for example allows demographic targeting of ads where the advertiser sets the audience they want to reach in terms of age, gender, location, interests. That is not contextual and will not depend on what you write, but who you say you are

I find Bebo is quite good because it's pretty user-friendly, and MySpace can be customised a bit more if you know HTML (or even just a good page-editing site).
Either way its always easier to get started if you know a network where some of your friends are already, hook up with them, and start networking from there.
Peace.

Popular SNS sites in Japan:
Mixi: http://mixi.jp
Yahoo! JAPAN Days: http://days.yahoo.co.jp

Mixi is by far the most popular, but Yahoo! JAPAN's Days has a nice set of features and should catch up fast. How have career-oriented social networking sites furthered your career or improved your life?
Many people participate on these websites because they hope/believe that it will further their career or improve their lives.
This question is intended to determine how successful these websites are in living up to that expectation.
How have career-oriented social networking sites furthered your career or improved your life?
when people are unsure about their careers I often suggest they take career aptitude tests and many of them have thanked me for the tip, so I take this as a positive sign.

Are there any safe social networking sites?
Depends on what you are refer to as safe.
Facebook is fairly safe, but it is still easy to get your personal information off of it.
Are there any safe social networking sites?
none are safe , any1 can pose as a 14 year old guy/girl and start talking to you ,
it's best just to talk to people who you know and are close friends with
oh and never EVER meet up woth some1 you meet online
but i'm sure you already know this
Reply:its not the network its how u handle yourself on it.
myspace is safe if your not an idiot and post your information all over the place.
facebook is boring and generic, sure its "safer" but still if your not safe on it then its not safe.
theres also bebo, i dont go much on it, uhhhhh midzid or sumtin like that.
just dont post your full name, school, numbers, and you can always set your profiles to private and what not. if someone is suspicious dont hesitate to block them.
just dont make yourself vulnerable and anything y ou will choose will be safe
Reply:the word "social" automatically makes it unsafe as you meet new people, becuase thats the purpose of a social website
and its unsafe becuase you dont know what those people actually want to do.

Have any of the social networking sites caused anyone any problems?
nope buts its got me sex
Have any of the social networking sites caused anyone any problems?
Not really because I only use common sense when using them. For example, do not enter your password on pages that are not facebook or myspace because those are usually scams. I enjoy writing, so I have been using the website
www.hubpages.com
It is a cool site and the people there are more about writing and being kind ot each other.

Are there any social networking sites for doctors? Places where MDs go to share clinical data and insights?
Those sites are well protected from us, unless it is practical information they want to share.

Do you take social networking sites too seriously?
I have some family and close friends on one, and they all think that because i re-added a guy who broke up with me months ago that i'm still not over him...but i don't have the heart to delete him again, and find myself now agreeing with the reasons he broke up with me (anger issues, problems communicating). i know it sounds stupid but just because i added him again i feel an enormous pressure to be friends but its something thats going to take much more time cuz he fuked me up. now he wants to maybe catch up over the holiday but i ain't calling. any suggestions?
Do you take social networking sites too seriously?
I HATE those sites. I have a facebook myself but i barely use it. It is basically a competition between your friends to see who has more of a life and more friends. it is just retarded
Reply:I don't take social networking sites seriously. But if you take social networking sites seriously, then your re-adding this guy in your friends list is serious. Had you taken these sites casually, why did you bother re-adding him in the first place?

Do you use social networking sites such as MySpace?
No...I think that I am social enough ( and private enoough) in my actual life that I do not feel the need to expose so many things about myself or my family in a virtual life.
Y!A is about the most social networking that I invovle myself in..

Are gay online social networking sites replacing gay bars?
Feels like more and more people prefer meeting others on the web compared to say 10 years ago... What do you think?
Are gay online social networking sites replacing gay bars?
You can't dance on a web site.
Reply:Where the social networking sites are working is with people that are in rural areas. They are "connected" to the gay lifestyle, and can meet "local" people they might not otherwise find.
Working in a STD clinic I find that more of the clients are meeting their partners on line, and sad to say it has increased the STD/HIV rates a lot.
But people need to be in social settings and the bars will never be replaced for that reason. In fact one of our bars has a Sunday afternoon for the "one line" people to meet and get to socialize in the real work, not cyber space, and it has been very successful.
Reply:I don't think so. The bars are just as packed as they were 10 or even 20 years ago.
People still need the real world.
Reply:There will always be bars! It is where real people really meet. Online meetings only give you the illusion of being someone else. How many of us have embellished who we are or what we really do online, only to be busted later, a large majority. When it comes down to it where do most of us set up meetings for online contacts? at the clubs mostly. The Internet is great for chatting and what not, but clubs/bars will be around for a long time. They are a "constant," like church, groceries stores, they are a mainstay of community gatherings.
Reply:No i don't think so...Networking sites are used primarily to meet new guys and to date...gay bars are to go out and have a good time
Reply:i hate english
Reply:For dating, I was more for online... For having fun, drinking, and dancing the bar... But I never picked anyone up from the bar. I always knew of the 3 week relationships from the bars... So I just went there to have fun, not really meet anyone...
Reply:I don't think gay online networking sites are REPLACING bars. I just think it's another venue to meet people, socialize, and (for some people) hook up.
I do think, however, that there ARE those who don't enjoy going to bars, so online networking is probably a welcomed replacement for them.
Bars will always be popular, because it's a place to see, be seen, drink, dance, meet friends, and have fun.

There are many Social Networking Sites opening up in India day after day. What do you think of this issue?
Do you think that it is a boon or a curse to India?
There are many Social Networking Sites opening up in India day after day. What do you think of this issue?
I believe social networking sites have become popular worldwide- I saw a report in the newpaper few days back that MySpace and Orkut were getting more hits than porn sites, which is definitely good, right?
I think whether it is about India or some other country- social networking sites are good. It makes people share opinions, it makes people of different nations or (since you specifically mentioned India) states/cities interact and find similarities without political considerations. I think it broadens your outlook for life.
But like all good things, social networking sites are abused often, and only a collective effort on part of the members can prevent it.
Have you considered that even Yahoo Answers is a online community and by interacting through questions and answers with other members you are actually participating in a sort of limited social-networking? Social networking sites have become a part of our lives!
Reply:here we don't know cause we are out side of India.. could be could not be that depends on the individual persons thoughts on the matter.

It was *the* original social networking site. MySpace copied the idea and it became incredibly popular, unfortunately for Friendster.
Friendster has an official profile viewer -- you can tell who has looked at your profile and it's legit. That's the main thing that sets it apart from all the other sites. You also have top friends, write blogs, post photo albums, have groups, post bulletins, design your own profile, see when your friends updated their profiles... it's really pretty good. It's incredibly popular in Asia.

How many Social Networking sites does an average user belong to?

I just belong to myspace.

Reply:Well...jusging by my logic, although the below article isn't exactly what you're looking for at first glance, if you think about the figures a bit it may help -
There is such a hige gulf between the two top sites MySpace and Facebook: of over 50% that logically the obvious answer to your question is simply 1.
Most people, Internationally anyway, who use any form of social networking must only use MySpace, otherwise these figures would be closer.

How do social networking sites work? I am looking for the algo that they use to connect ppl - like LinkedIn?
Well, they work by you setting-up a website, then advertising the site to other friends. They, in turn, advertise their sites and people find you. It's really easy and fun.
MySpace versus all other social networking sites? Am beginning my quest into an Online presence ...?
and have opposing viewpoints from clients as to whether or not to put a site up on MY SPACE or try one of the newer ones. ( I am new to this myself)\

MySpace versus all other social networking sites? Am beginning my quest into an Online presence ...?
Myspace is good for all ages, particularly ages 16-30 or so. And it has the biggest networking of all compared to the other sites (Myspace has well over 190 million users), so you're more likely to find the most people on there. It's one of the biggest sites on the internet and is targeted entirely around social networking. It's a GREAT place for people (especially musicians and small companies) to get their name out.
You're making it for the hair place you work at? Or only to advertise yourself? Either way, Myspace is probably your best bet for getting your name (or your business's name) out there. However, some other sites or more popular depending where you are; like everyonesspace.com, profilejunky.com, chillaxen.com, msn.com, facebook.com, tagworld.com, and more. Different sites catch on in different parts of the country. Ask around the neighborhood and see what's most popular in your area. But I'd go with Myspace, even if something else is popular too, it wouldn't hurt to take the time to make both then.
Just make sure you have an interesting background, good explanations of what you (or your business) does. You can even have yourself and everyone you work with make personal Myspace profiles about what exactly they do and put them in the "friends" section so that viewers can look at who works there and get a feel for the place. Don't forget the company address, phone number, fax number if you have one, maybe directions to the business (link it Mapquest or something), and anything else they might need to know, like they have to make a reservation 48 hours in advance. (And make sure you re-read everything! One misspelling might make people turn away... If you advertise as a "Hiar" colorist by accident, it might make people wonder that if you aren't even careful enough with your spelling on a simple website, how careful are you going to be with their hair...)
Only bad thing about Myspace is that you need to use HTML to design it, which most people don't know that much about. But rest easy! You can find just about EVERYTHING you need ALREADY in it's code form online, so all you have to do is copy and paste it! This is one of the best sites for everything you need: http://www.freecodesource.com/index.php?...
Here's some of the basics to get you started in case you want to start setting up your profile: ("blah blah"=what you want to type)
%26lt;b%26gt;blah blah%26lt;/b%26gt; (Bold)
%26lt;i%26gt;blah blah%26lt;/i%26gt; (Italics)
%26lt;u%26gt;blah blah%26lt;/u%26gt; (Underline)
%26lt;font color=red%26gt;blah blah%26lt;/font%26gt; (Change font color to red, you can replace "red" with whatever color you want... blue, green, yellow, etc)
Or you can go here http://www.webmonkey.com/reference/color... and pick a letter-number code representing a color... For example:
%26lt;font color=#00FFCC%26gt;blah blah%26lt;/font%26gt; (will give you a turquoise-green color font)
%26lt;br%26gt;%26lt;br%26gt; (To put a break between lines or paragraphs -like I've been doing between my paragraphs in this response)
Links are formatted like this:
%26lt;a href="website link"%26gt;What you want the link to say%26lt;/a%26gt;
Like this: %26lt;a href="www.yahoo.com"%26gt;Yahoo%26lt;/a%26gt; will give you a link to Yahoo's homepage when they click "Yahoo".
Good luck!! If you need any help or ideas or just have some questions, feel free to email me! I am addicted to Myspace and am pretty "well versed" in designing profiles, finding good graphics too use, making/finding HTML codes, and stuff like that.

Reply:My space is great for finding old friends and family that you have lost touch with plus you can now put TONS of pics (pictures) in there and its fun once you understand how to use the site. You will need to learn what RSS codes are but not how to make them. Its also good for seeing what is up with TV shows and music. Other then that I would just build your own site and you can make your own area for blogs and ask and answer questions and make sure that you have it in the web search for what you want it for and for all over the country you live in as well as others. I know allot of people who look into the things you do for work so make your own place to talk about what you do. You can use myspace.com for other things then for your job. That is just what I think you should do. But don't get me wrong Myspace is a great site to go to and see what people look like now from your past. I get a kick out of it and I just found someone I have been looking for from my past that has been missing from my life for over 7 years now. it was important I find him cause he is my sons father. So first us the site for personal use not business.

Why are social networking sites so popular and what value would you expect to get from joining one?
Same as here. Attention.
Why are social networking sites so popular and what value would you expect to get from joining one?
Social Bookmarking site is popular way to store , share and search links on the internet. It is a popular term for search engine optimization and it is an alternative way to boost traffic for the site.Other than web page bookmarks, services specialized to a specific subject or format - feeds, books, videos, music, shopping items, map locations, wineries, etc. - can be found. Social bookmarking is also part of social news sites like Reddit.

How do social networking sites like Friendster and even Youtube generate revenue?
Is it thru CPM (cost per impression), CPC/CPA (cost per click/action), affiliate marketing?
How do social networking sites like Friendster and even Youtube generate revenue?
No there is no other way.
Sites like Myspace and Friendster are based on ads.
I don't even think they use click based ads
They get raw money, like thousands from that.
Reply:Yeah, basicly through the ads on the sites. And with the millions of people visiting those sites, people are bound to click on the ads.
Reply:Great question.
This is a guess based on some research, but here goes.
The CPM model would best benefit the site since most visitors will ignore the advertising anyway.
Now that Google bought YouTube I would think that they will start to show AdWords ads soon. AdWords shown on a publisher site is AdSense and has a much lower CTR.

How does social networking sites like bebo and my space make money(besides advertising)?
Do they make any profits and how
How does social networking sites like bebo and my space make money(besides advertising)?
Social networking sites basically operate two revenue streams: contextual/banner advertising and subscriptions for premium services.
Cyworld.com allows users to create profiles for free, but the user has to pay if they want to customize it.
But advertising remains big. Myspace, for instance, according to reports earn about $25 million a month and growing every month - almost 30 per cent every quarter http://www.journalism.co.uk/2/articles/5...
Reply:Well, some offer products, such as facebook. But the majority of the income is based on advertising.

Why are social-networking sites like msypace, hi5 and livejournal such a hit?
Way back people hung around at the same places. They they got pagers and could arrange to talk or meet up. Then they got email, and could stay in touch. Cell phones became popular, letting people talk more and text and all that. But now you can hook up (albeit only virtually) with approximately 1 zillion people, filter out those who aren't into what you find interesting, while expressing who you are in the process. Why did these services take off? What took them so long? Which is the best? Can we live without them?
Why are social-networking sites like msypace, hi5 and livejournal such a hit?
In today's world most people in a community are socially disconnected from each other. The web is helping people to become connected again--and you have the whole world as your community. It would be very difficult to go back, because our culture has changed so drastically since the seventies. Family life isn't what it once was, and lonely people have a difficult time trusting people in their own neighborhoods.

FACEBOOK and other social networking sites for young people?
are they stimulating young people to interact with each other?
Or are they diminishing the ability for face-to-face communication?
Are they a pick up site - for all sorts of unsavoury people?
Are they the safest way for young people to "flirt"?
FACEBOOK and other social networking sites for young people?
I can only tell you how they are used by my children:
Katy=as a 'brag' page, for all her photos and news of her relationship with her boyfriend, and daughter.
John=as a pick-up page for girls.
Bill=to check up on what his friends are doing.
Jimmy=to keep in touch with friends that are living far away.
And I have a facebook and myspace account. To check up on what my kids (aged 18-32) are doing.
Reply:I have grandchildren age 21 to 8, who go on facebook and they are having a great time. They interact with each other and the parents are down as their "friends". My youngest daughter (33) is favorite aunt, to all of them, is always chatting with them and sending them family photos etc. I can see where trouble could occur, but since they are good kids, whose parents are open and honest, and drop into facebook to add things sometimes, everything is going well so far. I get e-mail notices from facebook that there was a message on MY facebook for me, and low and behold it was my oldest granddaughters' graduation pictures and loving message. Since we can get into any of thesir facebook pages, because they have put us down as friends and family etc. we have no problem with any of it.
Also, they are very sociable kids who play basketball, go to ballet, are in special classes because of their high marks, and have many friends, they definitely are NOT "diminishing the ability for face to face communication". I have never known such great social skills in all of them.
The internet medium is wonderful in all kinds of different ways, but of course is used by the "sick" people of the world as well. Keeping our children away from the net, I feel is not a good thing, it alienates them from their friends and what those friends are doing. We can assist them in keeping safe by being honest and open with them and making sure they they are being the same with them. My grandchildren are always "prodding" me and I get this e-mail saying ".......has given you a prod" in otherwords they are thinking of me. Wonderful! I am 76 and I am loving it.
Reply:well yes to the interaction, yes to the diminishing the face to face communication. Yes they are or could be a pick up site, and yes there are some unsavory people there, and no they aren't the safest way for young people to flirt. In fact, why are young people flirting in the first place??? They should be studying and educating themselves for their future.
Reply:Facebook isn't just for young people. I'm in my 30's %26amp; my oldest friend is in her 60's. For me Facebook is a way to keep in touch with old friends %26amp; a few of my family. Having been to boarding school I have friends all over the world %26amp; on Facebook we can all see what each other is up to %26amp; keep in touch. Two weeks ago I went to a school reunion that was organised via Facebook, I wouldn't have known about it otherwise. I've also got back in touch with a friend from my teens who I haven't seen for 20 years %26amp; she's coming to visit me next weekend.
I don't flirt with strangers or have hundreds of "friends" like some people do. I have a grand total of 37 people on my friends list. Half are old school mates %26amp; the other half are family or current friends. So for me Facebook has been a good thing. I've loved getting back in touch with people %26amp; it's been an incentive to get out %26amp; see people who were once a big part of my life.
Reply:i think they are diminishing face to face contact, teenagers don't seem to know how to hold a conversation or how to behave in public. I don't think these sites are the cause but they certainly don't help.
My friends recently have been using face book to have a go at each other which is not fair and out of order.
Good for people to keep in touch as easier then posting letters but definitely changing the way we interact.
Reply:I go on facebook quite a bit, but I find that there are a lot of weirdo's on there. Because I am a girl, strange men from all over the world send messages and it is annoying. I could understand it if my profile photo was provocative, but it isnt, its a regular photo taken by a friend.
There are a lot of dodgy people on the internet in general, so I wouldnt just attribute this to facebook. As long as a child is on their guard and reports any incidents to their parents, then I dont see the problem with them. A responsible parent would monitor the childrens activity anyway - I know I will when the time comes.
Reply:Yes I am concerned about deteriorating social skills. People will say things they would not otherwise say hardening hearts and I am concerned that perhaps human compassion is at risk
I am sure there are good points but a person should not build their social network around it, it could be a small part in well rounded interaction. My humble opinion.
Reply:I think that they are good they allow people to talk who they might not have met before it can increase their confidence open their minds to the world.
There are things such as cyber bullying, people asking to see you naked and perv's who try to meet up with you in those cases children should always be watched while on the computer and an eye kept on teenagers who might be vulnerable.
I don't know how i would have met my partner if it wasn't for myspace...
Reply:Bebo is currently being analysed for it's 'involvment' in the Bridgend suicides. Load of tosh if you ask me. People are not gonna kill themselves cos a bunch of bebo-ers ask them to. I think these sites are a good way to make friends, but I prefer good old MSN myself !
Reply:my 14 yr old grandson has been doing things on line that has caused some big problems . without going into details, i will say this.. i have had and known some who have had bad experiences....my husband and i have put our computer off limits to our grand children...you might think this is way out there, but we have decided it is best for our house
Reply:As I understand it it is a site for identity fraud - all that info just for the taking and it has been done too! I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!
Reply:It's not good

Yuwie.com invite friends. hang out. get paid. What is Yuwie? Yuwie.com is a social networking site similar to Facebook.com and MySpace.com. However, the big difference is that Yuwie pays you for socializing with your friends as well as other Yuwie users. Yes, is fun!
Lot cleaner!

Should social networking sites e.g. myspace, facebook be banned in the workplace?
then how would procrastinate?? :-)
Should social networking sites e.g. myspace, facebook be banned in the workplace?
Absolutely. My coworkers waste more time on myspace and related sites.
Reply:No.
Reply:Unless it's an actual part of your job, yes it should. A person is hired to work, and not on their myspace page. My employer pays me for my time, to be on her computer creating graphics, for customers, NOT fixing up my myspace or facebook. That is a great example of employee theft, btw.
Reply:YES IT SHOULD,
REASONS WHY
DISTRACTS YOU FROM WORKING
Reply:If you can't manage to get your work done then yes, other wise it should be allowed! One person not doing what they ought to be.........ruins it for everyone.

Are social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook denigrating the value of human fellowship?
I believe they are. I believe that this is not the way our Heavenly Father wishes for us to have fellowship with one another. When people engage with each other in such a way, the true value of interaction is lost. How must we go about reinstating our older, more Godly, values?
Are social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook denigrating the value of human fellowship?
YOU ARE REALLY DOING MORE DAMAGE THAN GOOD JESUS NEVER SAID THAT UNTIL HE DIED, ARE YOU THE SON OF GOD TO ASK GOD FOR FORGIVENESS FOR OTHER WHO YOU DO NOT KNOW AND ONLY KNOW TO JUDGE?????? NO BUDDY WHEN YOU DEMONSTARTE HUMILITY AND COMPASSION YOU WILL SHOW THE LOVE OF GOD, UNTIL THEN DO GOD A FAVOR AND DONT MARGINALIZE PEOPLE MORE THAN THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN MARGINALIZED BY BIGOTS THRUOUT HISTORY LIKE YOURSELF
Reply:And you are discussing this on R%26amp;S why? Is R%26amp;S not equally denigrating the value of human fellowship?
Reply:Yet here you are.
Shouldn't you be bugging your neighbours?
Reply:Whoa, hang on there Father, what exactly do you think Y!A is?
People are still educated in schools full of people, colleges and seminaries full of people. They still go to coffee shops and bars full of people, only now they have a shot at connecting with people all the way on the other side of the world. Sure it's not perfect, but it is giving people yet another form of self expression.
Noone is lacking the fundamental ability to connect, we have expanded it.
Reply:I guess Tom is the spawn of Satan then.
Either that, or myspace is the proof that there is no god.
Reply:never do you announce that you have sinned.
perhaps, through all of your judgment of others, you should start saying "we have sinned" at the end, in order to include yourself.

Are social networking sites dangerous ?
As long as you are careful about who you associate it with I don't think so. I used to be part of facebook, but I quit my membership because I hardly go to it. I liked facebook because it's easier to use than Myspace.
