What are the most popular social networking sites for teenagers?
Most likely MySpace and YouTube. They're popular most likely because of "word-of-mouth". MySpace also allows for some very high customization (if you are familiar with HTML) so that you can make your page fit your style. YouTube allows creative people to show off their own video.
So, I think it is a mix of both artistry on the part of the user, word-of-mouth on the part of getting their peers involved in looking at or using these sites, and the site itself for lending itself well to being very easy to use and modify.
