Why doesn't quality over quantity matter anymore on social networking sites?

Myspace, for example. And I'm referring to people in their 30s and 40s. It's different for the younger crowd (teens, 20s) because they are going through a phase of life, having fun, making pals, etc. I just don't understand why older folks feel the need to keep on adding and adding and adding and adding until they reach nearly 300 or more. There's only so much time in a day and week. How do (or can they) keep up! Are they really that fulfilled or feeling a bit empty utilizing their energy adding other Myspace users. As for me, I prefer to meet friends face-to-face in the real world. What is everyone's thoughts about this?

Why doesn't quality over quantity matter anymore on social networking sites?
It gets to be fun......the responses get browsed....sort of like the classified section of the newspaper and a rolving comedy act all rolled into one---everyone lies so more is better. Some days, no one is funny or remotely interesting. But some days, the hits are endless....and the pick up worth the trouble. The more names you add, the more your sense of autonomy and community simultaneously increase.....so you have this great group of people who know you and have heard your one liners and still laugh....but truth is, they dont know you at all....so great day or awful you can just unload and have a little fun.....
